Artist Statement

I see the world in small hyper fixated areas of concentration. Whether the fixation is macro or micro, hyperfixation is about understanding complexity and depth through an obsessive pruning process.

I create silver jewelry, drawings, (oil & watercolor) paintings , and mixed media pieces through this lens.

Thematically, I draw upon sensuality, emotional intimacy and the ability to allow people more accessibility to my work in a tangible form. Due to learning disabilities and autism, I struggle with emotional regulation and social anxiety, which have created anxious attachments through traumatic experiences. Much of my work contains elements of horror, loss, discomfort, dark fantasy and humor around trauma and fear.

Deeply fascinated by psychology and, coming from a brief stint in teaching, I am deeply inspired by Carl Jung, Mary Ainsworth, and Franz Kafka. The development of personality, attachment theory and the darker psychology around how the human mind never cease to fascinate and shock me to my core. Transforming trauma, loss, pain, and suffering are integral to profound human growth, capacity to learn and harness higher creative means. The imagery of John Singer Sargent, Casper David Fredrick,  Andrew Wyeth, Zdzislaw Beksinski, Micheal Hussar and H.R. Giger inspire me as a painter. In terms of fashion and jewelry, I adore Vivian Westwood, Alexander McQueen, and DIY goth and punk fashion with laughable socio- political undertones.
